History

In 1903, Gibson's first catalog assured customers that its instruments would be made of woods with "the most durable, elastic and sonorous qualities." Gibson continues this dedication to quality with the manufacture of the Historic Collection. Each guitar in Gibson's Historic Collection is produced using prized woods such as Grade AAA maple and close grained sitka spruce. Precise weight and grain structure are specified for these exquisite woods. Selected by Gibson's senior luthiers, these beautiful tone woods produce harmonics that project and sustain.

Quality in design has also been a part of Gibson's history. From Lloyd Loar's trend setting L-5 to the classic Les Paul and the jet age Flying V, no other guitar manufacturer has influenced the art of modern guitar as Gibson. The true test of design quality is time and Gibson's designs have clearly withstood this test. Guitar collectors throughout the world invest their professional opinions in classic guitar designs and the most collected guitars today are Gibsons. Quality by design is truly a Gibson trademark.

The Historic Collection maintains the dedication to quality that has been a part of Gibson's history since Orville Gibson's first efforts in 1894. Continuing this history of quality is a fundamental goal for this premier collection. The modern collector is assured that he is acquiring the finest instruments available today when buying a Gibson Historic guitar.
